Proposal
We propose that UPS should continue to take advantage of technology. Manager Edward Perna believes that UPS should be "continually looking to improve the way we do things." This is evident in the evolution of UPS's operations. Starting out as a company that delivered packages on foot, UPS has evolved to having a massive fleet of vehicles. Not only has UPS taken advantage of this form of technology, but they have evolved in terms of information technology; UPS used to use paper for its delivery information but now uses an arsenal of computers to complete this task. The DIAD has revolutionized the way UPS delivers packages and maintained sustainability, and we believe that the development of ORION will further UPS's efforts.
What is ORION?
ORION stands for On-Road Integrated Optimization and Navigation. ORION uses math algorithms to calculate which routes would be best for drivers. It takes information from past road history and determines which route would have the least chances of traffic issues. ORION is projected to save UPS over 1.5 millions gallons of fuel, and save them up to $50 million. ORION is only currently being used with 14 different UPS sites.
